Colorado QB Julian Lewis Hospitalized After Medical Emergency

On Wednesday Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis suffered a medical emergency and was transported to the hospital, his father revealed on social media.

“Yesterday, Julian experienced a medical emergency at the University of Colorado athletic facility and was promptly transported to the hospital,” a statement from the family read.

“He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support. Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Lewis started the 2026 college football season as the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes, but was benched midway through the team’s Week 4 contest.

Deion Sanders Addressed Lewis’ Future

Head coach Deion Sanders previously addressed Lewis’ future and the chances he could start again.

“That’s on him,” Sanders said. “I don’t think you could find a player in this program — or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn’t want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks.”

“If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. You can ask that gentleman (punter Damon Greaves) over there; I don’t play those games with kids. You’ve got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room. We’re there. We understand what happens.”

Through two seasons and just eight total games with the Buffaloes, Lewis has thrown for 1,322 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. It appears he may never start another game for Colorado, but that’s likely the last thing in the minds of the Lewis family following his medical emergency this week.

A cause for the hospitalization or diagnosis was not shared by the family.
