On Sunday, Lamar Jackson returned from a three-game absence to face the Buffalo Bills in what looked like a premier matchup. Jackson missed the three games with an ankle injury. He took one snap, attempted a pass, and his hand made contact with a Bills defender. He went to the medical tent and did not return.
The Ravens sent out backup quarterback Tyler Huntley to take his place, but as luck would have it, Huntley suffered a toe injury. So the Ravens were forced to turn to their emergency third-string quarterback, Joe Fagnano.
Fagnano would finish the day 10 of 21 for 91 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. Together, the three Ravens quarterbacks went 12 of 26 for 91 yards, no touchdowns, and a pick.
It was just a bad game all around for the Ravens, as they lost 36-10. This drops them to 4-4, last place in their division. The Steelers lead the AFC North at 6-2, with the Bengals right behind at 5-2 and the Browns at 5-3.
That wasn’t the worst part of the day, however, as just after the game ended, ESPN’s Adam Schefter took to Twitter to announce that Jackson would be headed to injured reserve.
“Ravens QB Lamar Jackson needs thumb surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.”

Hopefully Huntley’s injury isn’t too severe, and he can return to the field when the Ravens take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The only other quarterback on Baltimore’s roster is Skylar Thompson, but he is currently on injured reserve with an undisclosed shoulder/upper-body injury and is out for the remainder of the season.
The Ravens will have to rely on Derrick Henry if they hope to continue competing. Henry had just 11 carries for 53 yards and a score on Sunday. Justice Hill looked for two carries for 15 yards, and Rasheen Ali rushed twice for 5 yards.
Due to the subpar quarterback play in this game, Rashod Bateman led the Ravens in receiving yards with 22 on one reception. Justice Hill followed with 4 catches for 20 yards. Mark Andrews had 3 receptions for 14 yards.
It will be interesting to see if Baltimore brings in any other quarterbacks. Though the remaining free agents are nothing to write home about. Perhaps they will give 40-year-old Josh Johnson another shot; he was with the team from 2023 to 2024 and is currently on the Bengals’ practice squad.
