Elizabeth Holmes is at the center of a new A24 documentary from Nathan Fielder and director Lance Oppenheim. The focus of the film, as outlined by the trailers, is Holmes and her family in the last weeks before she entered prison.
You Can See Everything starts in 2023, when Holmes was scheduled for incarceration. Three years later, where is the Theranos CEO now?
Holmes was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison in 2022 for defrauding investors. Her health nd tech company, Theranos, claimed to have invented a device that “can” run hundreds of tests with just a few drops of blood. It was revealed that the technology did not work or produce accurate results, and both Holmes and the former president and COO, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, were convicted on multiple charges.
Holmes was found guilty of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She was found not guilty of defrauding patients.
Her sentence has been reduced to 10 years and 3 months, and she is scheduled for release on February 22, 2030. According to the Victim Notification System, Holmes will remain in Austin, Texas, after her release while on probation.
She reported to prison in May 2023 after spending the month with her two children and husband, Billy Evans, as well as a documentary crew led by Fielder and Oppenheim.
She is still imprisoned in Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas, but hat will soon change. According to ABC News, she has been approved for placement in a community correction center, also known as a halfway house, next year.
Holmes will be placed in the Austin Transitional Center on August 23, 2027. The facility is in Texas, about 90 miles from Bryan.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which spoke to ABC News, the BOP cannot give out information about prisoners, but it said multiple factors are involved in assigning prisoners to their designated facilities, such as “the level of security and supervision required, medical or programmatic needs, separation or security considerations necessary for the individual’s safety, and other relevant factors, such as proximity to the individual’s release residence.”
You Can See Everything, released in theaters today, October 16, is a surprising glimpse into the lives of Holmes and her husband, Evans. According to Oppenheim, neither Holmes nor Evans has seen the film. He told Bill Hader during a screening. “Elizabeth is still incarcerated; Billy hasn’t seen it.” Evans, who runs Holmes social media, has still encouraged fans to watch the movie despite this.
“We sort of had to stop. Communication broke down basically, and we’ve been in that state for a little bit. So it’s been challenging in that way,” Fielder explained. He noted that spending her last days of freedom with him was an odd choice: “Even with no cameras — I like to see myself as like a nice person overall, but still, I wouldn’t choose me,” he said.
Fielder is known for pushing the limits of fiction and reality with shows like The Rehearsal and Nathan for You. Yet, You Can See Everything has still left him with many questions. Fielder explained, “I still am not sure to this day what I experienced, and it’s one of the reasons I’m excited for it to come out and more people see it.”
You Can See Everything is in theaters now.
