BYD (HKEX: 1211) has opened reservations for the second-generation Seal 07, a larger electric sedan equipped with its second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.

Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, announced the opening of reservations on Weibo on Monday, without disclosing pre-sales prices — a practice known as blind reservations.

An official poster shows that reservation holders will receive priority production and delivery, with deposits fully refundable before orders are locked in.

The reservations serve only as expressions of purchase intent, allowing customers to change colors and configurations after the launch. BYD is also offering exclusive gifts to customers who place reservations and take delivery.

The move follows a series of previews. Zhang first unveiled the exterior on September 28 and shared cabin details on October 23.

The second-generation Seal 07 will feature the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging, with BYD promoting its charging capability as “ready in 5 minutes, full in 9 minutes.”

The car will also feature the DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological body control system, front double-wishbone and reinforced rear 5-link suspension, and BYD’s Smart Ecosystem 2.0.

The second-generation Seal 07 adopts the Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, with styling consistent with the Seal 08. It offers 6 exterior colors and 3 interior color schemes.

The car measures 5,080 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. It is 85 mm longer than the Seal 07 EV launched in March, with a 60 mm longer wheelbase.

The cabin features front zero-gravity seats with massage, ventilation and heating functions, along with a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. BYD lists trunk and front-trunk capacities of 618 liters and 160 liters, respectively.

The vehicle shown is equipped with roof-mounted LiDAR, though BYD has yet to detail its driver-assistance capabilities or how equipment will vary across trims.

Earlier filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed that the second-generation Seal 07’s battery-electric version offers peak motor outputs of 245 kW (329 hp) and 300 kW, both above the 240 kW of the model launched in March.

Alongside the battery-electric model shown in the poster, the filings included a plug-in hybrid retaining the Seal 07 DM-i name, with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a 160 kW electric motor.

The plug-in hybrid has a 38.029-kWh battery and a WLTC electric range of 245 km (152 miles). The latest official poster did not specify reservation arrangements for that version.

For reference, the Seal 07 EV launched on March 5 was offered in 2 variants priced at 169,900 yuan ($25,300) and 189,900 yuan.

The redesign comes as the Seal lineup faces sales pressure. Data compiled by CnEVPost shows that the series sold 46,718 vehicles in September, down 9.04% year-on-year and 1.57% from August.

In the first 9 months of the year, Seal-series sales totaled 304,723 vehicles, down 14.11% year-on-year. The lineup includes the Seal 07 and several other battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models.

The revamped N8 switches from 3 rows of seats to a 5-seat layout and will officially launch in November.
