‘Marshals’ Season 2, Episode 4 Cliffhanger Has Us Worried About One Regular Character [Spoilers]

As Marshals Season 2 heats up, we have our first cliffhanger. At the end of Episode 4, “Blast Radius,” our crew is left in a tough spot. Although most Marshals stories are somewhat self-contained, Season 1 did have its fair share of multi-part stories, making “Blast Radius” the first story of this kind for Season 2.

But beyond the basic questions posed by this cliffhanger (will the team catch the bomber?), the ending of this episode might make fans of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) a little worried about a recent pattern. Here’s why the ending of Marshals Season 2, Episode 4, has us worried about Deputy Marshal Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos). Spoilers ahead.

Marshals Season 2, Episode 4 ends with a bang — literally

After chasing a known terrorist bomber, one that Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) failed to arrest previously, Kayce and Andrea chase down the bomber to a specific barn, and everything ends with the bomber actually setting it off at the end of the episode.

The idea that Kayce would actually die is, of course, absurd. Luke Grimes is the star of the show. But what about Andrea? This has been a big episode for her, with lots of talk about her taking charge of the team when Cal goes on leave for his cancer treatment. Plus, Andrea seems to be closer to Kayce than ever. Which, as viewers of the show know, might be a bit of a curse.

Kayce and Andrea aren’t a couple. But if they were…

Marshals started off by telling us that Kayce’s wife from Yellowstone, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), had died off-screen of cancer. This immediately created a new family dynamic for Kayce and his son Tate (Brecken Merrill), but it also meant Kayce was, once again, looking for love. At the end of Season 1, it seemed he had found it with Dolly (Ellyn Jameson). But then, Dolly was killed in the Season 2 premiere.

Now, in the subsequent Season 2 episodes, especially in Episode 4, Kayce and Andrea have been getting closer. The curse is clear: Women who hang around with Kayce don’t make it! So, is Marshals intentionally making us worry that Andrea might not make it?

This “Kayce Curse” isn’t really a thing, and yet, when a show sets off a bomb in a barn with two leads, and we know that one lead can’t die, it really makes you wonder where the series is headed.

In addition to Monica dying off-screen, Marshals Season 1 also saw the death of Cal and Kayce’s buddy Garrett (Riley Green), meaning the show isn’t afraid of killing off folks who seem to be part of the semi-regular cast.

Either way, if Marshals is trying to worry fans with this bomb, and Andrea in particular, it’s working…

Marshals airs new episodes on CBS on Sundays. Episodes stream on Paramount+ the following Monday.
