Jonathan Taylor Trade: 3 Best Landing Spots for Colts Star Running Back

At this time last year the Indianapolis Colts were one of the most surprising teams in the NFL, with an undefeated 8-0 record.

The team looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender at the time, but a Daniel Jones torn Achilles later, the Colts began what could turn into a major selloff – not long after the team axed general manager Chris Ballard.

Sitting at 2-5 on the back of three straight losses, the Colts traded perennial All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks for third and fifth-round picks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested a number of Colts players including longtime star defensive lineman DeForest Buckner could be next on the trade block.

But everyone is wondering about star running back Jonathan Taylor.

Colts Stance on Jonathan Taylor Trade Revealed

Schfter revealed the Colts don’t have a plan to trade their star running back – at least unless the price increases.

“My understanding is that the Colts don’t wanna trade Jonathan Taylor,” Schefter said while suggesting the sources be using him to drive up the price of a Taylor trade.

In the end, though, Schefter said, “If I had to guess today I don’t think that they will trade Jonathan Taylor” come the deadline.

Taylor is unquestionably one of the best running backs in the game, but all running backs have a shelf life. The Colts, who would need a miraculous turnaround to make the playoffs, might be better off selling high on Taylor while they can and increase their picks come April.

The star running back sits fifth in the league in rushing with 587 yards and is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns (8) with San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey, Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams and Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen.

Best Landing Spots for Jonathan Taylor

As of now, it seems like Taylor isn’t going anywhere. However, if the team were to deal the talented running back, three possible landing spots make a too much sense.

Another deal with the Seahawks, who lost Kenneth Walker to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, would make a lot of sense for both sides. While Zach Charbonnet is expected back in the starting lineup soon, a trade to Seattle would improve the team’s rushing attack and get Taylor out of the AFC – a benefit for Indianapolis.

The Denver Broncos could also come calling as the team’s running back by committee approach hasn’t worked out too well thus far. Sure, Denver is 5-2 on the season, but it ranks in the bottom third in rushing with fewer than 95 yards per game despite sitting in the top half of rushing attempts.

Finally, the Minnesota Vikings are lone unbeaten team in the NFL, but no opposing team is afraid to face Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason.
