Law Roach is sharing what it is like to work with one of his newest high-profile clients, Kim Kardashian. The celebrity stylist and self-described image architect confirmed their partnership after dressing Kardashian for the September opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
Roach chose a vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress from Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2004 collection for the occasion, presenting his take on Kardashian’s distinctive public image.
“She is such a beautiful person and nice and easy [to work with],” Roach told PEOPLE at the Oct. 16 InStyle Imagemaker Awards. “She knows what she wants, but she also lets you create.”
Roach explained that the defining element of any successful stylist-client partnership is the creative’s individual perception of the person wearing the clothes.
“What’s different from stylist to stylist, it’s just our perception of who the woman is, right?” he said. “And so what I’m doing with Kim, it’s just the way I see Kim Kardashian. I may see her different than one of her other stylists, and that’s the beauty about fashion and being creative, is it’s just perception.”
He added that another stylist might interpret Kardashian differently, which he considers part of fashion’s creative appeal. Roach described their work together as “really, really, really fun.”
The collaboration expands an already influential client list. Roach has created memorable fashion moments for Ariana Grande, Céline Dion and Jennifer Hudson, but he remains best known for his longtime partnership with Zendaya.
In 2023, Roach announced his retirement from celebrity styling. The image architect continues to take on clients and appear as a judge on Project Runway. He also revealed that he does not maintain a traditional wish list of future clients. Instead, Roach believes the right people enter his life when the timing makes sense.
He does wish he could have dressed the late icon, Prince.
