R-Rated Horror Thriller Starring Josh Brolin is One of Netflix’s Most-Watched Movies in the World

When it comes to actors with one of the most underrated film catalogs, Josh Brolin is almost certainly on the list.

Throughout his illustrious acting career, Brolin has headlined several iconic films, including The Goonies, No Country for Old Men, True Grit, the Dune series, Sicario and Avengers: Infinity War. More recently, he starred in Weapons, which hit theaters in 2025.

The film is classified as a horror and psychological thriller, directed by Zach Cregger. Brolin stars alongside Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Cary Christopher and others.

Now, as of October 30, more than a year after its release, Weapons is trending at No. 7 worldwide on Netflix. It trails films such as Return to Sender, Far and Away, Nowhere to Run, Animals and Surviving Hurricane Otis.

What is Weapons About?

The movie description for Weapons reads, “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”

The film currently holds an impressive 93% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb, placing it among the highest-rated films on both platforms.

Brolin Explains Weapons and Its Confrontation With Masculinity

During a 2025 interview with Polygon following the film’s release, Brolin discussed his appreciation for stories that confront masculinity.

“I love confronting masculinity,” Brolin told Polygon in 2025. “This idea of how you’re supposed to act in that box that’s been created — confronting it constantly.”

Brolin also made it clear that he doesn’t view Weapons as just a horror thriller. He sees plenty of humor in the film as well.

“It’s not just a heavy-handed arrow of a genre,” Brolin added. “There’s absurdity in it. There’s humor in it. It’s constantly challenging masculinity and challenging the genre.”
